The central teaching of Bible reflection series-1 is that there is a difference between a nominal Christian and a regenerated Christian.  A nominal Christian is a Christian by name, tradition and culture rather than by personal relationship (with God) and experience (through Christ).  A nominal Christian may have a head (intellectual) conversion but not heart (spiritual) conversion.  Without a genuine heart conversion and rebirth, a Christian is only a Christian by name.

Sample Testimonial

I was a college freshman and away from home when I experienced my Christian renewal.  Before then I believed that I was a “pretty good” Christian—went to church regularly, believed in the orthodox Christian teachings, lived the Christian life “the best that I could,” “haven’t hurt anyone terribly or lived recklessly.”  I was even baptized and confirmed.  But then I was starting to become more disillusioned by my lifestyle failures, and disappointing follow through on new-year resolutions and other religious (self) efforts.  Then one particular Sunday evening I attended a campus meeting out of curiosity and there came to the realization that my self-efforts were inadequate and cannot please God, and that I needed to enter into a committed relationship with the Jesus of my faith.  I did on that day by saying “I do” to Jesus, and thus experienced the inner peace and transformation that made me feel somewhat “born again.”  Not that the feeling mattered or that I didn’t flop after that experience but that I started the spiritual journey that I hadn’t started before was the main difference!
