Workplace Meditation Week 23: Memorial Day Love
Workplace Meditation
Memorial Day Love
Bible Passage: 2 Samuel 1: 25-27
Passage Key Words: might, fallen, battle, grieve, brother
Topical Key Words: war, soldier, love, loss, remembrance
Jonathan and David met through their military service involvements and they came to love and support each other as brothers. Both served to defend and protect the freedoms of their nation. They survived many tours of duty but one day Jonathan died on the battle field. When David heard about the loss, he mourned for Jonathan and wrote a prayerful poem in his remembrance, and he later supported one of Jonathan’s family member to show his love, appreciation and gratitude.
Likewise, many Christians have died on the mission field in the service of the faith (Hebrews 11). Today, more have suffered and died than in the past and others continue to die in Moslem, communist and secular nations, without justice or judicial recourse. Their hope is that we would remember and love them like David for Jonathan with tokens of our gratitude for their life work and sacrifice.
May God show us how we can love those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms and faith.
