Moving Prayers
Bible Passage: Acts 4: 31
Passage Key Words: prayed, place, shaken, filled, Holy Spirit
Topical Key Words: inspirational prayer, purposeful prayer, corporate prayer
High stakes interpersonal conflicts and traumatic events usually inspire impassioned and purposeful prayer—personal and corporate. Apostles Peter and John had done good deeds that would normally bring commendation rather than rage and hostility (Acts 4). But their critics greeted their goodwill with indignation and reprove. Once out of the sights of their detractors they prayed, not for relief or conquest but for the opportunity to do greater good in the world.
The challenge facing Christians in today’s affluent societies is not dying in lion’s den as earlier believers but finding the time, cause and motivation to come, commune and walk with Jesus so that we can produce godly fruit and change in the world. Unfortunately for our tech lives, such change and the impact that we crave for the world can only come through purposeful, inspired and corporate prayer.
May God lead and teach us how to find time and build the Christian relationships that can bring us together to pray purposefully.
