Workplace Week 31: Infectious Negative Attitudes
Workplace Meditation
Infectious Negative Attitudes
Bible Passage: Numbers 13 & 14 (NIV)
Passage Key Words: “we can’t,” “they spread,” “bad report,” people, wept, grumbled
Topical Key Words: workplace negativism, ungrateful attitudes and perspectives
Negative attitudes are infectious and destructive. The men who went to explore Canaan under Moses’ direction brought back a bad report that discouraged and demoralized everyone, except a handful. Their assessments rather than promote resourcefulness and faith encouraged fear and flight. The result was 40 years of hardship and losses for everyone. On the individual level, Jesus told the parable (Matthew 25: 14-30) of one employee who found many faults with his employer and job assignment. While his coworkers took initiative, worked hard and fulfilled their responsibilities, his attitude undermined his determination and he accomplished nothing. During his employment review, the man complained but received no attention except reprimand and termination.
Daniel had many reasons to complain against his employer but he chose God’s perspective and provided exceptional service.
May we see and take God’s perspective always and work and serve others as if doing it for God and His kingdom.
