Spiritual Accountability and Existential Victory

Bible Passage: Genesis 39: 1-23 (NIV)

Joseph faced with temptation considered sinning against God by breaking His commandments the greatest and best deterrent. The seducer might have said to him, “Nobody would know,” “It’s just this one time only,” “Your friends did it” or “If you don’t, you would lose everyone’s affection, your job and other consequences might follow.” In fact, Joseph did lose the seducer’s affection, goodwill and his job. Moreover, he got framed and went to prison. Nevertheless, he remained faithful to God and his beliefs.

Because God knows our innermost thoughts and desires there are no secret sins. Jesus called on us to clean our insides first because all temptations must be won there. Victory in our hearts (God’s temple) must come before outside demonstration, internal before external accountability.

May God make us more aware and sensitive to His Holy Spirit within.
