Trials, Weaknesses, Submission & Perfection

In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus faced the hour before his trial and crucifixion. To overcome the weaknesses of His human nature, he submitted his will to the Power of the Holy Spirit. This submission was the basis of His perfect living. When the rich young ruler came to inquire how to live a holier and perfect life, Jesus told him to put away the idol in his life and follow the Spirit-led lifestyle. The man disobeyed, accepted his weaknesses and did not submit or follow Jesus. Therefore, he failed to move toward perfection.

The Apostle Paul was “glad” about the “weaknesses” that the trials he faced revealed because the realizations help him to submit to “Christ’s Power” in his life. When he was pressed and wanted relief, God said to him, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” While we may wish otherwise, God works best when our human self-reliant preferences and options fail.

May God give us the grace to “delight in the weaknesses,” “insults,” “hardships,” “persecutions,” and “difficulties” that give Him opportunities to show Himself through us.
