Workplace Week 46: Christian Veterans
Workplace Meditation
Christian Veterans
Bible Passage: 1 Samuel 30 (NIV)
Passage Key Words: “wives and sons and daughters taken captive,” “fought,” “recovered everything”
Topical Key Words: veterans, soldiers, service
David and his troops defeated the Amalekites in a war and recovered their families once taken captives. Every soldier did not go into battle. On their return, some returning “fighters” argued that the logistics and reserve personnel deserved less. But David credited the victory to God and shared their blessings with everyone, including some civilians.
In our service to God (Matthew 20: 1-16), God might commend the “least” as much the “greatest” or give the same reward to the “last” as the “first.” Whether we serve as evangelists or repair crews, pastors or greeters, teachers or child care attendants, God judges and apportion rewards and commendation based on faithfulness, not positions. Every believer who has served Christ faithfully in this life is a decorated Christian veteran, poised to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant…Come and share your master’s happiness!”
May God give us the grace to serve Him with distinction and faithfully.
