The Bathsheba Office Affair

David and Bathsheba had an adulterous affair. As king, David had a supervisory power over Bathsheba, which made their affair non-consensual. David looked, got interested and entangled and suffered irreparable harm. The affair and subsequent relationship adversely altered their lives and affected many other lives negatively—family, friends and their nation. Consciously or unconsciously, we and others can transform our workplaces into adulterous arenas by inappropriate dressing, communication, contacts and interactions. The final outcomes are never blessed.

The Bible admonishes (Proverbs 2; 1Thessalonians 5:22) us to avoid and flee adulterous relationships however enticing or promising. An example worth emulating is Joseph’s sustained repulsing of his supervisor, Potiphar’s wife. Although he lost that job and endured some hardships, his long-term and final career advancements proved the wisdom of positive moral choices.

Therefore, no adulterous affair is ever wise, secret or rewarding (Proverbs 5-7).

May the Lord always grant us the wisdom, strength and faith to walk in His ways.
