Suffering, Submission and Service

Apart from his crucifixion and death, Jesus faced many challenges during his earthly ministry. His detractors criticized and taunted him but they could not turn him away from obeying God. They threw arguments at him and tried flattery and social rewards, inviting him to dinners and celebrations. Rather than seeking praise, admission or acceptance, he fought and worked to meet other people’s needs. Obeying God gave him fulfillment. When nothing worked, they smeared his character to hasten his conviction and exit. Still, he did nothing to stop them. He accepted his sufferings as part of God’s will for directing and shaping his earthly life and ministry. The early Christians endured the same hardships because they too realized that their earthly challenges kept them humble and close to God, while seeking His guidance, strength and comfort (2 Corinthians 1: 3-11).

May we have the faith, strength and wisdom to endure and submit to God’s will even in difficult times.
