The Wicked Trail of Unchecked Power, Pride & Greed

Bible Passage: Esther 3 (NIV)

Haman rose to power under a self-absorbed and cruel king. With his promotion, Haman got whatever he wanted except the obedience of one man, Mordecai. As punishment, he decided he would not only kill Mordecai but the entire Jewish community in the kingdom. He used monetary arguments to get the king’s support. But God used Queen Esther and Mordecai to annul his plans.

In certain countries in Africa, Latin America, Middle East and Asia, the unchecked pursuit of power, private gains and self-promotion has led to devastating ethnic and sectarian violence and unprecedented crimes against humanity. John the Baptist told some soldiers (Luke 3: 14), “…be content with your pay.” The social practice of the alternative in many parts of the world has led to increased human trafficking, kidnapping, extortion and other heinous crimes.

May God give us the humility and courage to help the vulnerable and powerless in our communities and society.
