Prayer Secrets
Bible Passage: Mark 14: 32-41 (NIV)
Passage Key Words: “deeply distressed,” “overwhelmed,” “death,” “prayed,” “temptation”
Topical Key Words: unspoken prayer, secret requests,
Jesus fell to the ground overwhelmed with sorry in the Garden of Gethsemane just before his trial and crucifixion. His recorded prayer did not fully express his deep agony. Hannah “was praying in her heart …but her voice was not heard” because she was “deeply troubled (1 Samuel 1:9-20).” She only told God the details of her desire. The woman weeping and wiping Jesus’ feet did not tell all before others because her critics were around and disdained her presence (Luke 7:36-50). But Jesus knew and forgave all her sins.
As God heard the publican who muttered few words, in contrast to the Pharisee who said much (Luke 18: 9-14), He hears secret prayers—with their unspoken intentions, faith and commitments.
May God hear and honor all the unspoken prayers of our hearts and lives.
