Envy Of Coworkers

Bible Passage: 1 Samuel 18 (NIV)

David worked for King Saul. One day, Saul overheard some subjects praising David more than him. Filled with pride, anger and envy he orchestrated conflicts and devise plans to kill David. To earn his approval, other employees spied on David and supported Saul’s entrapments. However, God helped David escape as Saul’s self-destructive behaviors got worse.

The Pharisees and Sadducees had the same envious hatred for Jesus. The poor and disenfranchised craved His message and teaching. He did not fear the establishment, seek their approval, follow their rules or fear their power. Therefore, they concocted charges that led to his trial, conviction, crucifixion and death. When that did not end Jesus’ message and influence, they pursued His followers. We too, like King Saul, the Pharisees and Sadducees, can fall prey to the self-destructive envy of our neighbor.

May God remove from our hearts the seeds of the envy of our neighbor.
